A widget is a small graphical user interface used to give and share information. Widgets have become a staple of the "web 2.0" revolution. Almost every website offers widgets to either put on your blog or website, or on your desktop like with the Mac OSX Dashboard or Windows Vista sidebar.

Last.fm is an incredible resource for the music fan. With the last.fm software, the website keeps track of everything that you listen to on your computer with iTunes or winamp, and even songs you listen to in the car on your iPod, and then creates charts in real time to show your listening habits, incorporates social networking features like suggesting friends with similar taste in music and housing comment areas that let you communicate with them. In addition to all of this, they offer streaming radio stations based either on artists similar to an artist you type in, music you have previously listened to and have been stored in your library, or reccomendations given by last.fm based on your listening habits! It's really a great place for music fans to nerd out.

This widget goes through and displays the 5 most recent tracks you have listened to, either using the last.fm radio or the last.fm scrobbles that come from listening to your own iTunes library. It shows the artist and track title information, as well as album art when available and gives the public a link to the last.fm home page as well as your own personal profile!

People who would use this widget are big music fans who like to share what they are listening to with friends and family. This widget can easily be embedded onto a myspace page, blog or personal website for use, to show everyone what you are listening to.
